Check out our customer John Shaver’s 1960 Chevy Apache that’s just back from Street Machinery. The patina paint job on this truck is insane!

John originally bought his 1960 Apache as an already built eBay vehicle. He enjoyed it for some months but quickly started to develop a list of improvements. Once introduced to Level 7 via social media, he made a call and connected with Jesse.

Jesse and John spent a few months coming up with a strategy to replace all of the mechanicals on the truck focusing on performance and reliability. The plan was to fabricate a firewall and inner fenders, and repair all of the rust.  Before the truck ever arrived at Level 7, we purchased the chassis, engine, transmission, brakes, and all other items required to put the rolling chassis together.

With everything in place, Level 7 got to work on the truck. But as many projects do, this one needed more than originally estimated. There was some rust found in the roof of the truck that would require an entire new roof.  Once we knew that additional paint work would have to be done, we started looking at other areas of the body that should be repaired as well.

Ever heard of Jesse’s term the “might as wells?”  Well, this was a serious case of the might as wells. At this point, it made the most sense to repair any of the rust found on the truck and strip it so that it could be properly body worked and painted.

Another stumbling block that lead to a complete paint job was that this truck was an original 2-tone truck. With John wanting a complete Klondike Gold paint truck (factory 60s GM color), we would have to paint at least the whole bottom of the truck. After over a year in initial mock-up and build of this truck, it was finally ready to head to Street Machinery for the body and paint work. Borris and Jerome spent just short of a year doing all of the body work – just as a nice paint job would have – as well as painting the entire truck with a fake patina exterior and new Fawn interior color. They also shot Lizard skin coating to the inside of the cab and Raptor Liner to the bottom.

Now that it is back, Dylan and Jesse are ready to get back on it and make it run and drive.
